Current Volunteers

The Lift has been powered by volunteers since its founding in 2013. While we have a full staff at our shop, our work is made possible by the dedicated time and talent our volunteer community shares with us. Thank you for giving us the gift of your time to support your neighbors!

“There are many organizations that do duplicative work in the Twin Cities. The Lift is unique in that it doesn’t touch a lot of other spaces. I’ve come to learn even more now about The Lift and the impact on women, and families, in particular.” – Ashley, a current volunteer and Development Committee member

FAQs

The Lift Garage is a low-cost auto repair service that specializes in providing affordable car repair and honest advice. Our customers are Minnesotans who fall within 150% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. When faced with an unexpected car repair, our customers simply cannot afford market-rate repairs – The Lift offers low rates at less than 1/3 the market rate as well as free inspections and other supportive services to keep our neighbors safer on the roads.

As a volunteer, you uplift our work with your time and talent, making it possible for us to use our resources wisely. You make it possible for us to continue serving customers at affordable rates and keeping our community safer on the roads! Learn more about our impact by clicking here.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept volunteer technicians and service writers, but we are grateful for your interest in volunteering with The Lift! We would love to have your help with other volunteer opportunities – while familiarity with cars is not a requirement for our volunteers, it is a great bonus!

If you’re interested in applying to work at The Lift as a technician or service writer, you can learn about job openings here.

Volunteer roles at The Lift are flexible, and there is no minimum volunteer requirement for most opportunities! We share projects and signups in a monthly newsletter to our volunteer community to opt into as they are able, and you can expect to spend 2-3 hours on a project.

Volunteers play a key role in the success of several fundraising and tabling events throughout the year! You can expect invitations to help at our Spring Fundraising Breakfast, our Fall Brewery Event, Community Car Show, amongst other events. Event support tasks typically include set up, clean up, registration support, collecting donations, giving tours, and more.

If you’re looking for a more hands-on role, consider joining our Events Committee! This group of volunteers collaborates with staff to build on the success of our two signature events, Accelerate Our Action and Gear Up for Good. You’ll work on event-specific strategy and accomplish tasks to execute events that inspire guests, boost community engagement and raise money for The Lift!

Many of our volunteer opportunities take place onsite at our shop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Other opportunities, such as events and tabling appearances, may take place at different venues around the Twin Cities. We also have occasional remote opportunities, such as making phone calls and supporting data entry.
