Helen has been coming to The Lift Garage for many years, as her work in direct service to families has always meant that for Helen, a car is absolutely essential for her work. Without her car, Helen says, she simply wouldn’t have been able to do her job making home visits. It’s still crucial to her work now, where she moves between different sites for her organization. Working in service to families is Helen’s “heart work,” and her vehicle is crucial to getting to do the work she loves.
This is why, for Helen, having a car isn’t a luxury—it’s a blessing. Helen recognizes the key role that having a safe, reliable vehicle has in a secure life.
“It’s the domino effect. If you miss work, then you’re going to turn around and there’s your rent. And then that domino effect of all the other bills and things started to collect. I’ve been blessed not to have to deal with that. So for me, The Lift is invaluable.”
Helen takes great pride in having a reliable community resource to recommend to her clients and her family. The Lift Garage has helped three generations of her family: Helen, her parents, and two daughters. She knows our service writers’ staff just by the sound of their voices on the phone, and she always knows that at The Lift, she’ll receive honesty, respect, and kindness.
“I don’t think some people understand, it’s alright to be on the bus if you live by it, and if your job is by it, and if the work you do is by it, and if it’s realistic with bus routes. Being able to have a car is not just a luxury. It’s a necessity if you don’t live in the metro and everything you do is in the metro.”
We’re so grateful to all of our supporters who help make low-cost car repair possible for our customers. Thank you!
