RFP for Strategic Planning Services
The Lift Garage seeks a consultant to support the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders
in a strategic planning process to create a two to four year strategic plan to guide the administrative
and programmatic direction of the organization. The consultant will work with a Strategic Planning Task Force
made up of 5-6 members of the Board and staff to craft and implement the strategic planning process.
The goal is to have the planning process complete by Summer 2019.
The Lift Garage has been open since 2013 and provides low cost car repair to low income Minnesotans.
We provide affordable car repair, free pre-purchase inspections, and honest advice with a goal of
helping people have secure cars and secure lives. In 5.5 years The Lift has grown from subletting one
bay one day a week to 5 bays 5 days a week. The Lift has also grown from all volunteers to a staff of
10 . We have many questions facing us as we look to future growth.
Goals of Strategic Planning
The Lift seeks a strategic plan that serves as a foundation for the next two to four years. Key goals
for the planning effort include:
- Develop overarching strategy for sustainable growth that maintains The Lift Garage's focus
on creating secure cars and secure lives;
- Identify priority areas for growth and development to serve its diverse clients;
- Help the organization determine the best options for our growth;
- Answer key organizational questions;
- Create prioritized list of goals and strategies;
- Potentially update mission, vision, values.
Scope of Consultant Work
The Lift seeks a consultant who will work with a small committee of the Board of Directors (currently 11
people) to craft and implement the strategic planning process. Consultant will lead the organization in
information-gathering, self-assessment, consensus on plan objectives, and focusing on program and
operational priorities. We are actively seeking consultants who have experience leading other nonprofit
organizations through periods of growth. The end product will be an achievable, consensus-driven two
to four year strategic plan that could be easily summarized one on page.
The anticipated budget is $4000-5000.
Proposal Process and How to Submit
Complete proposals should be submitted to Cathy Heying via e-mail at
[email protected] by January 18, 2019. Proposals will be reviewed the following week, and
proposers may be invited to participate in a brief interview with the Board of Directors on Monday,
January 28th between 4:30 and 6:30p.m in Minneapolis.
The proposal submission must include:
- Cover letter, resume, and relevant work samples;
- Proposal including proposed approach to the planning process, general proposed steps and
timeline, deliverables, a detailed budget, a summary of work with other nonprofits and;
